Vina Bosconia comes from one of the Lopez De Heredia family’s three single vineyards in Rioja Alta, just outside the town of Haro.
This wine is a blend of 80% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and the remainder Mazuelo and Graciano.
Coming from the superb 2005 vintage, this extremely traditional Rioja Gran Reserva was matured for over 10 years in oak barrels before bottling. It was released for sale in early 2026.
“The 2005 Viña Bosconia Gran Reserva has a nose of cherries in liqueur and some brick dust, a little à la Rayas, with more Garnacha profile despite having only 10% of Garnacha in the blend (there’s 80% Tempranillo, with the balance between Graciano and Mazuelo). This comes from El Bosque, a vineyard on a slope, with less stones on the surface than Tondonia and hence less like Châteauneuf. But the character is there… It’s very attractive, Mediterranean, aromatic, showy and expressive. Bosconia tends to develop very nicely in bottle, normally at a slower pace than the Tondonia. It has 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.4 and 6.6 grams of acidity. Today, I preferred this over the Tondonia. 6,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2019 after spending 14 years in the old oak vats and neutral American oak barrels.” 97/100 Wine Advocate; tasted March 2026.
