Sugrue The Trouble With Dreams Sparkling Wine, Sussex, England – 2021

60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir. 30% was fermented in 500-litre ex-burgundy barrels. 36 months on lees. Dosage 6 g/l.

The fruit for Sugrue’s flagship sparkling wine was sourced from two estate-owned vineyards planted on chalk, clay and green sand;  Mount Harry and Storrington Priory. The base wine is from the 2021 vintage, with 60% of reserve wines from 2011, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 blended in because of very low yields in the 2021 vintage. This multi-vintage expression of The Trouble With Dreams shows some astonishing depth, richness, and complexity from the high proportion of reserve wines in the blend. While delicious to drink now, it has brilliant cellaring potential for the next decade or more.

This is a unique, bracing, super-fine sparkling wine with immense ageing potential. Top champagne meets the best of England.
