Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc is arguably New Zealand’s finest unoaked example of this grape each year. It combines pungent grapefruit and passion fruit flavours with purity, minerality and almost Sancerre-like restraint. As from the 2018 vintage it is fully organic.
“Powerful green-fruit aroma with some struck match. Admirably ripe but tense fruit on the palate – well counterbalanced by acidity. Very bright and energetic with no shortage of interest and nuance on the mid palate. Seriously good wine by any measure.” 17.5/20pts Jancis Robinson MW
VINTAGE 2022 : SMALL YIELDS, BIG FLAVOUR
‘Quality’ is a word well-used at Dog Point Vineyard as it sets the foundation for everything they do. To achieve this they often have to compromise volume, and this rained true for vintage 2022.
While 2022 was another small harvest, the wine is exceptional with great concentration and intensity. Unfortunately there is just not a lot of it!
The new year brought hot overcast weather and seasonal rainfall, which was the perfect catalyst for the onset of disease across the region. With fruit ripening and the onset of botrytis appearing, coupled with labour shortages and COVID-19 spreading amongst the contract picking gang, it was all hands on deck to bring the fruit in. Family, friends, the accountant, and even the winery team were in the vineyard from dawn until dusk, and the hand-picking and sorting of our grapes became more paramount than ever, to ensure the quality parameters that we set at Dog Point were met.
