This Chianti Classico Riserva comes from 100% Sangiovese grapes from the best plots of vines in the estate. It is aged for 24-36 months in large Slavonian oak casks, then in bottle for a further 2 years before release onto the market.
It is concentrated and complex, with flavours of rich dark cherry, earth and spice. The fairly cool 2013 vintage has given wonderful freshness and acidity which will give this wine another 10-15 years of life. Classic, unique and delicious!
“The 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva is dark, powerful and super-expressive. Black cherry, plum, smoke, sage, licorice, spice, leather and tobacco add shades of character to a wine that shows the more virile side of Sangiovese. The 2013 Riserva is a wine of tremendous intrigue, the sort of wine that opens up over hours, constantly revealing new dimensions of personality. For that reason, it is one of the most compelling and important wines in all of Tuscany. The 2013 is stellar. Don’t miss it.” 94/100pts Vinous
“Just mid ruby. Malty, minerally nose that is still a little closed, but with fine, perfumed fruit hiding underneath. Embryonic sour-cherry and raspberry palate with a layer of fine, powdery tannins and beautiful acidity streamlining the whole. Gorgeous elegance and energy.” 18/20pts Walter Speller on Jancisrobinson.com
