This Malbec comes from the Paraje Altamira subregion of Mendoza’s Uco Valley, which is surely the single most exciting new terroir in all Argentina. At an altitude of 1100 mts and from impossibly stony soils, the young Sebastian Zuccardi has created one of the most impressive, mineral-packed Malbecs I have tasted.
2017 was a great year in Mendoza generally, and particularly in the Uco Valley, giving wines of perfect balance and excellent ageing potential. This has a beautiful array of violet and spice aromas, which grow and grow on the palate. It is full bodied and packed with plush, velvety damsen and dark plum fruit flavours. It manages to retain elegance and freshness and finishes with a cool, mineral bite.
Serve with lean meat cuts or semi- hard cheeses.
It was awarded 94pts by Tim Atkins MW in his annual Argentina report and 92pts by The Wine Advocate.
