|When to drink|
This Riesling comes from 33 year old vines planted on the volcanic soils of Olivier Humbrecht’s top Grand Cru vineyard – Rangen.
It tastes dry, with just 6.4 g/l of residual sugar, smooth, full and creamy in texture, with a fresh bite of spicy “volcanic” acidity on the finish. Packed with lime fruit flavours and very gentle petrolly-Riesling notes, it is already lovely to drink in its youth, but will age and develop beautifully until the late 2020s. 12% alcohol.
“From the youngest vines in the Rangen de Thann that were picked the same day as the grand cru, the citrus-colored 2016 Riesling “Roche Volcanique” opens with a brilliant, very aromatic yet refined bouquet of perfectly ripe and intense fruit intertwined with coolish and crunchy stony notes. Lush and intense on the palate, this is a juicy, firmly structured yet elegant Riesling that was harvested late. The texture reflects the ripe, concentrated fruit with fine tannins and lingering salinity. The finish is long, complex and stimulatingly salty. This is a great wine at this price point. Tasted at the domaine in June 2018.” 93/100 pts The Wine Advocate
