Kaesler WOMS Shiraz Cabernet Barossa – 2021

“Made from ‘fallout from Age of Light Cabernet and a mélange of Bogan and Alte Reben, this is a celestial weapon of mass seduction, and while I must admit I liked the old vintages of this wine, when it was more of a cudgel than an épée, the finessing here lays at the feet of the elite fruit quality and the diminishment of obvious oak notes.  Civilised and genteel, with a fabulous and welcoming fanfare on the nose, followed by a handshake and hug on the palate!  WOMS has been subjected to a colossal turnaround in style in both the Kaesler cellar and in its precision viticulture.  In common with every wine in this forward-focussed operation, the vines show the way and the wine follows.  And in the case of 2021 WOMS, it is a toned, sonorous, nubile Great Aussie Red that has replaced the bloodied brawler of bygone years.” 18.5+/20 Matthew Jukes
