This classic Rioja comes from a gravel-stoned single vineyard on the northern bank of the Rio Ebro in Rioja Alta. The vines average around 50 years old. The wine is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha, and 5% each of Graciano and Mazuel, which is fermented in large old oak casks before being matured for 6 years in aged American oak barrels. It then spends a further 4 years minimum in bottle before being released for sale. This is the classic way Rioja used to be made, and consumed when mature and ready to drink. It has very traditional herbal, truffle aromatics; beautifully developed on the palate – almost Burgundian in its mix of sweet raspberry fruit and undergrowth flavours, and with perfect supporting acidity and oakiness. Fantastic and still remarkably young! Drink until 2030 “Following the appreciation of the 2007 vintage from María José López de Heredia, the red 2007 Viña Tondonia Reserva is showing great, revealing unusual finesse and elegance. The nose is a little reticent but nuanced and complex, a little shy rather than explosive. The palate is medium-bodied, and the tannins are very refined. This has to be one of the finest vintages of Viña Tondonia Reserva of recent years. 200,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2015.” 96/100pts The Wine Advocate Please note that until 31st March 2021 only, we can offer either 1 bottle of Vina Tondonia White Rioja Reserva OR 1 bottle of Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva Rosado Rioja for each 6 bottles of Vina Tondonia Red Rioja Reserva you order.
