The Taylor’s Pass vineyard is Villa Maria’s finest quality single vineyard for Sauvignon Blanc grapes. It is an old river bed in the cool Awatere subregion of Marlborough, full of river stones.
This is a fairly serious, rather more Sancerre-style Sauvignon Blanc; dry, fresh and crisp, with intense flavours of lemongrass, lime zest and a hint of “gunflint” minerality. 2019 was an excellent vintage throughout New Zealand – their “summer of the century” – so this should develop interestingly in bottle until 2024.
