This beautifully presented, three bottle gift box contains one bottle of each of the following three Champagnes from rising star Champagne producer, Emeline De Sloovère:-
A blend of 75% Pinot Meunier and 25% Chardonnay made from 70% 2019 vintage fruit with the addition of 30% of older “reserve” wine. Bottled extra brut with 5g/l of residual sugar.
Fresh, dry and well-structured, in typical “Pinot” style. Richly flavoured with gentle, bready, leesy flavours, excellent balance of fruit and acidity and a long, crisp finish.
Serve with mixed charcuterie or cheeses. Approximately 5,000bts were produced.
A blend of 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Meunier from 60-70 year old vines grown on chalk and limestone soils. Made from mainly 2018 vintage fruit, this spent a total of 4.5 years on its lees during first and second fermentations. Bottled “extra-brut” with 3g/l of residual sugar.
Wow! The old vines give great concentration of flavour, impressive structure and long length! This Champagne tastes somehow more vinous than most, with nice weight and fruit density and a silky smooth mouthfeel. A long, rounded, “gastronomique” Champagne which would be great served with chicken in a rich sauce or your Christmas turkey! Approximately 5,000bts were produced.
100% Chardonnay from the fantastic 2014 vintage. This spent 80 months on its lees during second fermentation in bottle and is bone dry with only 2g/l of residual sugar.
Gorgeous biscuity, toasty, bready flavours combine with fresh, crisp, lemon and citrus fruit. This is long, dry and very intense. Superb Champagne!
Serve with mild goat’s cheese, fish or shellfish dishes. Only 1,524bts were produced.
About Emeline De Sloovère
The De Sloovère family have been making Champagnes in their 11th century farmhouse for five generations, but Emeline is one of the new generation of young, motivated grower/producers in the region who is taking her family’s Champagnes in a new and very positive direction. Emeline is one of the leading lights in the drive towards sustainable Champagne production. Her vines are grown biodynamically, using only natural composts and sprays; the wines are fermented using wild yeasts and bottled with minimal or zero sulphites; and she is the first producer in the region to ditch the metal neck sleeve which traditionally covers all Champagne bottle corks. Instead her “Emeline de Sloovère” range of wines have a simple strip of paper sealing the cork, which substantially reduces her Carbon footprint and has no effect on the quality of the champagne.
Her vines
Emeline’s eight hectares of old vines (her Chardonnay vines are 60-70 years old!) are mainly located to the south of Epernay on the famous, chalky, limestone soils of the Côte des Blancs region. She also has a small vineyard of mainly Pinot Meunier grapes on the sandy, silty terroir of the Vallée de l’Ardre, about 15kms west of Reims. The small sachet of soil you will find in this gift box is a mix of chalk and limestone from her “Guédonnes” vineyard in Mancy.
Her winemaking
Emeline vinifies her wines in stainless steel tanks. They spend 9-10 months on their lees after their first fermentation to gain intensity and complexity, then are left for far longer than the norm in contact with their lees during their second fermentation in bottle. This gives her Champagnes lovely “boulangerie-style” aromas and flavours of bread and brioche, impressive structure and a long finish. All three Champagnes were bottled with minimal dosage so that they are extra brut (very dry) in style. Each of the wines has crisp acidity, elegance and finesse and above all great personality!
