The “Mamoiada” is an ancient region of Sardinia based in the rugged, rocky centre of the island. Francesco is the 5th generation of his family to work this land, but the first to bottle his wines under his own “Cadinu” family name. His wines are all certified organic since 2020, but in reality artificial fertilisers have never been used on his vineyards, so they have been organic for over 100 years!
The soils in this region are of very old, decomposed granitic sand. These special soils, combined with the vineyards’ high altitudes between 620-750m and the high day-night temperature differences, produce wines with freshness, minerality and gentle, salty acidity. Yields are very low due to the dry climate and the family’s very old vines, helping the wines to express the granitic soils to the maximum.
“Perdas Longas”, named after the ancient menhirs (long stones) you can still find in the Mamoiada countryside, is a blend of Cannonau (aka Grenache) grapes from 2 south-facing vineyards, one with 50 year old vines and the other 80 year old.
Don’t be fooled by this wine’s rather pale cherry red colour; it is powerful and packed with flavours of mediterranean herbs, almonds, wild fennel, figs and almonds. It has good weight of fruit and plenty of structure and there is a beautiful granitic freshness to give balance and charm. 14.5% alcohol.
Enjoy with oily fish, red meats, game, Pecorino or mature cheeses.
730 cases were produced.
Drink 2025 – 2030.
