Fatalone Primitivo Riserva Gioia Del Colle DOC – 2022

This very special Primitivo was selected by Jancis Robinson MW and Hugh Johnson as their favourite Primitivo from Puglia in the latest edition of their much-respected “World Wine Atlas”. Unlike most other Primitivos, which are made for immediate enjoyment, this wine was built to age – it can improve in bottle for up to 20 years!

The wine is produced 100% organically in the heart of the Primitivo grape’s homeland – the Gioia Del Colle region of Puglia – with no added sulphites and no fining or filtration in order to retain the maximum flavours of this wonderful grape and terroir. During its 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels the winemaker even plays music to this wine in order to optimise the microoxygenation process!

It is full bodied, rich in minerality and freshness, with slightly sour black cherry and plum flavours and ripe fruity notes of blackberry and mulberry, together with spices like clove and cacao. The tannins are velvet smooth and there is a toasted almond taste on the finish which is typical of this top quality Primitivo wine growing zone.

Drink with strong flavoured or spicy dishes such as pasta, roasted beef, game, grilled meat as well as fish and aged cheese. It also matches perfectly with dark chocolate!
