Emiliano Falsini Cabernet Franc Limite IGT Costa Toscana – 2023

Emiliano Falsini is one of the best respected winemaking consultants in Italy, consulting for several of the country’s top organic producers. In 2017 he purchased 4 hectares of 30 year old vines in the most northerly area of Bolgheri, near Bibbona, and in the 2019 vintage he started bottling his own wines there. Both the wines he produces here are made entirely from Cabernet Franc, which is perfectly suited to the area’s rich clay soils with a high proportion of calcareous stones. 

Certified organic, this is Emiliano’s top Cabernet Franc and comes from vines averaging 30 years of age. It is aged for 10 months in 225 litre Bordeaux barrels, which gives the wine extra structure and ageing potential. It has intense blackberry and blackcurrant fruit flavours with very fine vanilla notes from the oak barrels. Full bodied, concentrated and dense, this is a real mouthful of fruit, complexity and power. It shows beyond all doubt the fantastic potential of  the Cabernet Franc grape in the warm and sunny Bolgheri region and is a magnificent success in the excellent 2023 vintage.

This vintage has not yet been rated, but the inaugural 2019 vintage was awarded 95pts by Wine Advocate and the 2020 vintage received 94pts.
