Domaine Luneau-Papin Vera Cruz in magnum Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie – 2023

This remarkable Muscadet comes from 45 year old vines grown on a hillside overlooking the Goulaine marshes. The soils here are schist, gneiss and mica. It spent nine months on its lees in underground glass-lined vats and terracotta amphorae to give extra weight, complexity and finesse.

This dry white wine has remarkably salty acidity which persists through to its long (30 seconds or more!) finish. It is fresh and elegant but in the mid palate it is full of gentle exotic fruit flavours which fill the mouth and seem richer than usual for a Muscadet. A beautiful blend of freshness and warmth, gentle power and acidity, and a truly unique Muscadet!
