Rully is situated in the Cote Chalonnaise region to the south of the Cote de Beaune. Domaine Jaeger Defaix own 6 hectares of the best vineyards in the Rully appellation. Their premier cru “Rabourcé” is located on a fairly steep hillside whose soils are mostly composed of white clay, which reflects the sun’s rays onto the grapes during the growing season.
The grapes are picked by hand, then carefully sorted on arrival in the winery. The wine is fermented and aged in oak barrels for 18 months, then bottled after a very gentle filtration.
This Chardonnay from the warm and sunny 2022 vintage has impressive richness, depth and power supported by fresh balancing acidity. It has a long finish and easily matches the quality of many far more expensive whites from the famous Cote de Beaune region further north. Superb!
