Domaine Amirault Batard Princesse IGP Val De Loire Blanc – 2023

This is an amazing Chenin Blanc from organic producers based in the Bourgueil appellation on the Right Bank of the Loire.

It has great depth and a beautifully silky, sensual mouthfeel, combined with fresh balancing acidity and long length. Not for nothing is it called “Batard Princesse” as in style it reminds me of a top white Burgundy (perhaps not quite Batard Montrachet!), yet with the more exotic, apple and pineapple flavours of the noble Chenin Blanc grape. Anyone who enjoys Chenin Blanc will surely love this!

Winemaker notes

The terroir
Chenin blanc replanted in 2017 and 2020 on the mythical hillside of the « Grand Clos », at the top of the village of Bourgueil, and facing South. Clay and flint above limestone sub-soil.

The 2023 vintage
2023 benifited from a lush season of extreme intensity, with alternating heat and storms. A quantitative and qualitative harvest potential never seen in the last ten years, moderated by a mild end to the summer. Wines of elegance, balance and subtle structure.

Winemaking
100 % manual harvest.
Double sorting of the grapes, wild yeast fermentation then a sulphur-free vinification. Full alcoholic and malolactic fermentations made in barrels.
Aged in new barrels for 9 months in the cellar (no racking).
