This Morgon comes from 65 year old vines grown in the schistous/volcanic-soiled Cote du Puy subzone. It is extremely pure and intense with lovely depth and density of vibrant raspberry and red berry fruits. It is very young and needs a little time to open up but the fruit is delicious!
“The 2019 Morgon Côte du Py reveals aromas of blackberries, cherries, smoked meats and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it’s charming and enveloping, with a generous core of succulent fruit that’s framed by powdery tannins. Less tightly wound than the Javernières, this will drink well out of the gate but also offer considerable longevity. As I wrote last year, this 13-hectare domaine produces some of the longest-lived and most serious wines in the Beaujolais. Old vines, cultivated soils, a late harvest and traditional winemaking with whole clusters, long macerations and a submerged cap are the rudiments of the approach. These are inky, saturated reds with plenty of character and structure, and the top cuvées will have no trouble evolving for two decades. Anyone looking to experience the glories of aged Beaujolais shouldn’t hesitate to tuck a couple of cases away in the cellar.” 93/100pts The Wine Advocate
