Chiappini Felciaino Bolgheri Rosso DOC – 2021

The Chiappini family are truly one of the Bolgheri region’s best kept secrets! They are a small, family wine business, 100% organic, producing top quality red and white wines at a fraction of the price of some of their more illustrious neighbours. The location of their vineyards is impeccable: directly next to Ornellaia and opposite Le Macchiole!

Produced from a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, this smooth, full bodied red was aged in used oak barrels for 1 year to give spicy complexity but no obvious “oaky” flavours. Ripe and richly fruited, with good structure, effortless balance and freshness, this is a wine you want to drink several glasses of! The 2021 vintage was excellent in Bolgheri with good freshness and acidity to balance the wine’s delicious ripe fruit flavours. Drink 2023-2028. 

Serve with red meat dishes, particularly steak or wild pigeon, or caciucco (Tuscan seafood stew)

“The organic Chiappini 2021 Bolgheri Rosso Felciaino has generous dark fruit and blackberry with a tarry note at the end. This blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc is medium rich and nicely intense. There is a floral tone that emerges nicely with dark petals, rose hip or praline. Once the wine hits the palate, you get cassis, black cherry and a return of that smoky note. Some 28,000 bottles were released at a very competitive price point.” 92pts Wine Advocate
