Established in 1608, Manincor is a hugely impressive family winery, owned and managed by Count Michael Goess-Enzenberg and his wife Countess Sophie.
Manincor is now one of the two leading biodynamic producers in the Alto Adige (the other is their neighbour Alois Lageder), with 50 hectares of vineyards based in the south of Alto Adige around the village and lake of Caldaro. No chemicals have been used in the vineyards since 2005 and sheep and chickens roam freely in the vineyards – a fantastic example of biodiversity in operation.
Manincor’s Eichhorn vineyard is on a south-west facing slope at an altitude of 300m just outside the village of Terlan in the south of the region. The micro climate here is mild and breezy and the soils have a high mineral content consisting of sand and clay mixed with eroded porphyry.
2015 was a great year in the Alto Adige – a year of light and sunshine such as the region only sees twice in a decade. Such years produce grapes of outstanding maturity and wines of exceptional intensity!
This 100% Pinot Bianco is very fruity on the nose, reminiscent of ripe apple and white blossom, minerals and wet limestone. It is juicy and succulent on the palate with tangy, mineral acidity. Its ten years in bottle have added a gentle biscuity complexity. It finishes long, with lingering fruit on the aftertaste.
Delicious with lightly flavoured fish dishes, seafood, vegetarian dishes, tangy cheeses or makes an excellent aperitif!
