Domaine Sauveroy Rivière Sauvage Amphora Anjou Blanc – 2022

This charming family domaine of around 28 hectares of vines is situated on a sandy, stony hilltop overlooking the Layon river, about 10kms due south of the River Loire and the Savennières wine appellation. The estate is now certified organic and the wines are made by Quentin Cailleau, 3rd generation of the Cailleau family.
This is the winery’s finest Chenin Blanc, made from vines grown on schistous soil. Grapes are hand-picked at perfect maturity, then fermented naturally in cement amphorae, where they spend 14 months on their lees to gain in richness and complexity before bottling.
This dry, fresh and fruity Chenin Blanc combines exotic peach and pear fruit flavours with slatey minerality. It has wonderful depth and density and a long finish. This is a truly impressive Chenin Blanc at a very reasonable price.
