St Jodern Kellerei Heida Veritas – 2017

This remarkable dry white wine comes from the highest vineyards in Switzerland, planted at 1150mts altitude above the village of Visperterminen in Valais. The vines are also some of the oldest in Europe and were planted back in the 1880s before phylloxera struck. Due to the way they were planted – dug in deep individual ditches – and the extreme altitude of the vineyard, this was one of the very few places in Europe that the dreaded phylloxera virus did not destroy the vines, so the vines remain to this day the original ones, with their original roots.
The wine is as fascinating to drink as its history. It is fresh, dry, fruity, but at the same time rich and concentrated, with real complexity of flavour and minerality on the finish. A fantastic and unique example of the Heida grape, grown high up in the Alps; the ultimate, totally authentic Swiss white wine!
