Matetic Corralillo Syrah San Antonio Valley – 2013

This organic Syrah is crammed with red fruits, violets and pepper while chocolate notes from the oak combine with the spiciness to create balance. Finely structured, intense and complex; balanced, with long tannins and a lingering finish.
“All three Syrahs I tasted, which has traditionally been the focus at Matetic, were somehow closed and austere and require plenty of air, starting with the 2013 Syrah Corralillo; this wine comes from two hillside parcels planted on granitic soils with differing clay components and biodynamically managed. The three bottlings of the variety come from different soils. This is quite floral with aromas of red fruit, very fresh in this cooler 2013 with some olives, spices and hints of raspberry leaves. The palate is juicy and vibrant, with supple tannins and very good freshness. As a constant in the Matetic wines, the oak is imperceptible and the wine has very good freshness; these are wines to have with food.” The Wine Advocate
