This small, organic and biodynamic-certified family domaine is one of the rising stars of Cabernet Franc production in the Loire Valley, situated just outside Chinon in the sleepy village of Cravant les Coteaux. This is one of the best quality areas for growing Cabernet Franc in the region; top producer Philippe Alliet is just down the road. The soils here are a mix of sand and clay with limestone subsoil.
Yields are generally very low – around 30hl/ha – and the grapes are hand-picked. Fermentation takes place in large concrete vats using native yeasts, then the wines are matured for 14 months in oak barrels, 50% of which are new each year.
Made from very low-yielding, 80 year old vines, this 100% Cabernet Franc has impressive richness and concentration of fruit, combined with elegance and finesse. The warm and sunny 2020 vintage has given lovely floral aromas and ripe, purple fruit flavours together with impressive weight and opulence. This is already drinking very nicely but has the structure to improve in bottle for the next ten years. 13% alcohol.
