Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier Canberra – 2012

This was the first wine to imitate the famous producers of France’s Cote Rotie region by cofermenting the red Shiraz grapes with a small percentage of white Viognier grapes. The result is one of Australia’s most famous reds – spicy, complex, fresh and elegant, with beautiful dark Shiraz fruit flavours but aromatics and lift from the Viognier. In style it is not as rich and powerful as South Australian Shiraz, it has fresher acidity and more black pepper, Rhone-style flavours.
