Castell’in Villa Vinsanto del Chianti Classico in 50cl bottle- 2000

Castell’in Villa is one of the most important and renowned wine estates in Chianti, based in the beautiful, hilly countryside just outside Castelnuovo Berardenga. 

Their sweet Vin Santo wine is made in tiny quantities (only 900 50cl bottles were produced) in only the best vintages. It is a blend of Malvasia, Trebbiano and Sangiovese which were  hand picked in late September, then left to dry in the winery over the winter. Once fully dried out, the grapes were pressed and fermented in old casks, where they remained for a further 24 years before the wine was bottled.

The resulting wine is one of the most amazing sweet wines I have tasted! 

Clear brown in colour with greenish tinges around the rim, it has incredible aromas of nuts – walnuts, chestnuts and almonds.

In the mouth it has wonderful intensity and fresh acidity, with flavours of nuts, dates and honey. It is sweet but not too sweet, with a finish which lasts for minutes! It’s quite expensive but once you have tasted it you will understand why!
