Established in 1608, Manincor is a hugely impressive family winery, owned and managed by Count Michael Goess-Enzenberg and his wife Countess Sophie.
Manincor is now one of the two leading biodynamic producers in the Alto Adige (the other is their neighbour Alois Lageder), with 50 hectares of vineyards based in the south of Alto Adige around the village and lake of Caldaro. No chemicals have been used in the vineyards since 2005 and sheep and chickens roam freely in the vineyards – a fantastic example of biodiversity in operation.
Mason Vineyard is a superb site at between 400 and 450 metres altitude, sun-drenched with a constant breeze. The soil is a mixture of sand and clay mixed with a diversity of rock, from finely eroded dolomite, porphyry, gneiss and granite. The 2022 vintage was warm and sunny and produced perfectly ripe and healthy red grapes.
The nose evokes ripe red and black fruits. On the palate there are ripe red cherry fruit flavours, spice and a hint of smoke. The tannins are gentle and smooth.
Enjoy at optimum maturity from 2025 to the end of
2031.
Serve: just below room temperature, at 60 – 64 °F; it will benefit from decanting in its youth and savoured from Burgundy glasses. Makes an excellent partner to roast salmon with a salt and soy sauce crust, roast duck and morello cherry
sauce or mature soft cheeses.
