Weingut Silas Hörler Pinot Noir Carsilias Maienfeld, Graubünden – 2022

Carsilias is a vineyard in the municipality of Maienfeld. It means cross in ancient Roman. This is Silas’s best site for growing Pinot Noir; the vines are over 60 years old and therefore produce very low yields.
The excellent quality 2022 growing season produced low yields of small, perfectly ripe grapes which were partly destemmed in the cellar and partly placed in an open wooden vat, complete with stalks. The wine then was then fermented using wild (natural) yeasts and matured for 18 months in French barriques. It was bottled without any filtration.
The wine has flavours of dark berries, spices (pepper, cinnamon) and gentle vanilla. It is broad and deep, with smooth tannins and a long finish. Fine and complex, this one of the most interesting Pinots I have tasted from the Bündner Herrschaft!
Only 1,000 bottles were produced.
