Georg’s “Village” Pinot Noir is a blend of six different parcels of grapes grown around the village of Malans, two of which come from old vines over 50 years of age. It is biodynamically certified and a perfect entry point to his range of single vineyard Pinot Noirs.
The warm and sunny 2022 vintage has given good depth of ripe, juicy red cherry fruit flavours combined with fresh, spicy acidity and relatively firm, youthful tannins.
This is a wine you can enjoy immediately but which will improve in bottle over the next 3-5 years.
“Based on Swiss and French clones and partly from vines up to 60 years old, the dark-colored 2022 Malanser Pinot Noir Village shows concentrated dark berry fruit reminiscent of elderberries, blackcurrant, dark cherries and violets. This is a medium to full-bodied, elegant, refined and refreshing as well as concentrated, compact and spicy Pinot with dense and aromatic fruit and a remarkably firm and crunchy tannin structure. This wine shows a lot of energy and tension, and as attractive and fleshy as it is today, this is a long-distance runner that should be at its best in six to 10 years. Vinified in stainless steel and aged in large oak casks for about nine months, this was bottled in August 2023 with 13.5% stated alcohol and a Diam cork. Tasted in March 2024.” 93/100pts Wine Advocate
