Fromm Merlot Malans – 2018

This is one of the finest Merlots I have tasted from Switzerland, and it comes not from Ticino but Georg Fromm’s Schöpfi vineyard in Malans! It has dark fruits, spice and very gentle, oaky vanillins. The tannins are wonderfully ripe, silky and smooth and there is real freshness and finesse here.
“The 2018 Malanser Merlot shows a dark purple color and opens with an intense and concentrated, perfectly ripe sour cherry and dark berry aroma intertwined with spicy-crystalline terroir, toast and tobacco notes. A wonderfully precise and reductive style. Silky and very intense on the palate, this is a full-bodied, very elegant and balanced yet tight and finessed Merlot with remarkably fine acidity and tannin structure, great purity and concentration and a clear, tart, fresh, long and aromatic finish.
