Planted in 1946, Mount Pleasant’s Lovedale Vineyard in the Hunter Valley North west of Sydney produces one of Australia’s most individual and long-lasting white wines. 2011 was a perfect vintage in the Hunter region, producing clean, ripe grapes of the highest quality. This Semillon shows dazzlingly pure, vibrant, lemon and lime zest fruit with firm acidity and a rich, buttery toastiness typical of great Semillon vintages in the Hunter. The wine sees no oak and is harvested fairly early to retain its fresh acidity and lowish alcohol of only 10%. It is just at the start of its drinking life, but will develop and improve in bottle until at least 2025. Nowhere else in the world will you find Semillon of this calibre in this unique style. Awarded 97/100pts in James Halliday’s Wine Companion 2018.
“Exquisite toasty notes over precise, luxurious lemon-curd flavours. The concentration and complexity here is utterly enthralling. I can’t think of how this could be improved, except perhaps with more bottle age. A work of absolute beauty.” 19.5/20pts jancisrobinson.com (RH)
