Chateau Tahbilk is one of Australia’s oldest family wineries, established in the Nagambie Lakes area of Victoria (about 120 miles north of Melbourne) back in 1860. It was highly-respected Australian wine writer James Halliday’s winery of the year for 2016.
This, their flagship Shiraz, was produced from half a hectare of ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines planted back in 1860; some of Australia’s oldest vines.
It is one of the most sought after and collectible Australian wines in the world!
2010 was probably the best vintage in this region of Australia this millenium, giving this Shiraz multi-dimensional fruit, spice and floral flavours, wonderful power and concentration, and a long potential life. This famous Shiraz has become one of the most sought after and collectible Australian wines in the world! Expensive – yes – but not in comparison with Penfolds Grange or Henschke Hill of Grace…
After careful handpicking, fermentation takes place in century old oak vats followed by maturation in French oak for 18 months prior to bottling and then a further 4 years “bottle-aging” before release.
