Kalleske are one of Australia’s leading organic and biodynamic producers. Brothers Troy and Tony are the 7th generation of this winemaking family who have been making wine in the Moppa sub district of Barossa continually since 1853. 2017 was a stunning red wine vintage in the Barossa with perfect conditions throughout the growing season. This blend of 86% Shiraz, 11% Petit Verdot and 3% Viognier was cofermented in open top fermenters with very gentle hand pumpovers to give silky smooth tannins to the wine. The wine was matured for 13 months in 25% new French, American and Hungarian oak barrels, then bottled unfiltered and unfined to preserve maximum character and flavor. This is a rich and opulent, velvet-textured red with succulent blue- and black-berry fruit flavours and hints of clove and spice. It has wonderful balance, freshness and fine structure and is a great example of old vine (averaging over 50 years old) Barossa Shiraz. Served on SWISS airlines First Class in Summer 2019!
