Rizzi Barbaresco Riserva “Boito” – 2015

Rizzi’s Boito vines lie in the upper part of their Rizzi Cru where the soils have more clay, giving a muscular and structured wine for long term ageing. The wine is aged in large Slavonian casks for 18 -21 months followed by at least 30 months in bottle before release.

“The Rizzi 2015 Barbaresco Rizzi Riserva Vigna Boito features the artwork of proprietor Enrico Dellapiana on the front label. With only 3,176 bottles produced, the wine reveals broad shoulders, width and impressive depth. This vintage offers a complete picture of the Nebbiolo grape and of the distinctive elegance of Treiso, one of the cornerstones of the Barbaresco appellation. This Riserva offers a solid center of gravity with ample fruit rendering and framing. The vintage achieves a richer, more concentrated style that suits the wine very nicely.” 94/100pts Wine Advocate

Rizzi Barbaresco “Pajore” – 2016

From one of the most famous vineyards in Barbaresco, this has beautiful, sensual aromas of violets and roses. On the palate it has very crisp red fruit flavours – raspberry and strawberry – with notes of leather, spice, black pepper, cloves, and licorice. It is full and mellow, very balanced, with a nice tannic structure. It’s a Barbaresco that combines finesse and power, elegance and minerality. Rated 17.5/20 on Jancis Robinson.com and 92pts by the Wine Advocate

Rizzi Barbaresco Riserva “Boito” – 2014

This Riserva spends an additional 6-8 months in cask and 12 months in bottle vs the family’s “normal” Barbaresci. The 2014 vintage was a beautiful one in Barbaresco, creating wines of freshness and elegance, femininity and suppleness. This “Boito” Riserva is now reaching its optimum drinking window (2023-2028), showing huge complexity and developed flavours of truffles, mushrooms and autumn leaves. Classic Barbaresco; and the label was hand painted by winemaker Rico Rizzi!

Rizzi Barbaresco Riserva “Boito” – 2016

Rizzi’s Boito vines lie in the upper part of their Rizzi Cru where the soils have more clay, giving a muscular and structured wine for long term ageing. The wine is aged in large Slavonian casks for 18 -21 months followed by at least 30 months in bottle before release.

This Riserva from the fantastic 2016 vintage has haunting aromas of roses and violets, combined with ripe plum, cherry, leather and spice on the palate. It is is hugely impressive, seriously complex and made for the long term.

The label was painted by winemaker Enrico Rizzi, who is a fanatic basketball player. The numbers 8 and 24 were worn by Kobe Bryant, the greatest basketball player of all time according to Enrico. And he considers 2016 to be his greatest vintage yet – hence 24-16-8!

Rizzi Barbaresco “Rizzi” – 2016

This Barbaresco comes from Nebbiolo vines planted in 1974, facing south and south west, running along the top of the famous Rizzi hillside near Treiso. It is the Rizzi family’s most important vineyard and can produce up to 40,000bts in a great vintage such as 2016.

This is benchmark Barbaresco; fresh, elegant, with both tension and restraint. It has delicious, ripe red fruit flavours and hints of mushroom and forest floor/undergrowth. It is complex and deep, with vibrant acidity. A really good expression of Barbaresco at a very reasonable price!

“Mid to deep ruby. Balsamic fruit that is almost a little ethereal and with minerally hints. Ripe, soft and juicy palate with gorgeous gripping yet ripe tannins that cement themselves firmly on the finish. Succulent, elegant, expressive.” 17.5/20 pts from Walter Speller on Jancis Robinson’s Purple Pages.

Also awarded 93+/100 pts by the Wine Advocate.

Rizzi Barbaresco “Nervo” – 2016

This single vineyard Barbaresco immediately entices with a multitude of aromas; roses, tar, sweet red cherry fruits. In the mouth it has very gentle power, finesse and tension. It feels somehow “feminine” in its sweet, gentle red fruit flavours but has great complexity and grows for minutes on the finish. Absolutely delicious!
