Tolpuddle are one of the leading producers in Tasmania.
2023 was the Island’s coolest growing season on record and the fruit was harvested in pristine condition.
This wine has lifted aromas of orange blossom and white jasmine – hallmark scents of a cooler vintage. The palate is powerful, layered and textured with grapefruit, lemon pith and minerality.
All fruit was hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed and fermented, then matured for 10 months in French oak barrels.
“Bright medium-light yellow colour; smoky charcuterie, struck flint and toasted hazelnuts to sniff. The wine is intense, focused and very long on the palate. Piercing lemon/citrus flavours, fresh and balanced acidity driving it long and promising a big future if cellared, although it’s a great drink right now. An outstanding chardonnay.” 97/100 Huon Hooke, The Real Review
“The 2023 Chardonnay is precise and firm, with salty fruit and a spool of tense acidity that spirals through the finish. It’s very long and very good, although raw at this inchoate stage of its development. I love this wine each year. The saline thread of acidity really extends out through the finish, like casting a fishing rod over a still lake; the sound of the reel is akin to the extension of the acidity across the palate. The bouquet speaks so clearly of sage, salted cashews, green apple, white peach and pressed lavender. This is a beautiful wine, one that is tightly coiled at this stage. I’d recommend buying what you can but waiting another year or more to open the bottles, such is the potential here. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.” 95/100 Wine Advocate
September 2025:- Tolpuddle Chardonnay 2023 has been crowned Champion White Wine for the second time at the International Wine Challenge (IWC) awards ceremony in London. The Champion White Wine award is given to the best white wine in the entire competition, judged from thousands of entries worldwide.
The Champion White Trophy follows success earlier this year where Tolpuddle Vineyard was awarded six trophies. The Chardonnay was awarded four trophies including: Best Australian White, Best Australian Chardonnay and Best Tasmanian Chardonay. Significantly, the Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay also won the International Chardonnay Trophy, which is awarded to the best Chardonnay in the competition.
The 2023 Tolpuddle Vineyard Chardonnay was awarded 98 points, with the judges describing the wine as “compelling and addictive”.
