Pewsey Vale The Contours Riesling Eden Valley – 2015

Pewsey Vale make some of the most famous Rieslings in Austearlia, based high up at 500mts altitude in the Eden Valley, above Barossa.
Produced from old vines farmed on the coolest slope. Bottle ageing for five years before release transforms fresh lemon and floral aromatics into a complex wine of limes and brioche. Further richness and complexity will accumulate over future decades.
Pale straw in colour with green hues. Intense classic lemon fruit aromas, with a hint of white flowers. Bottle aged characters of toast, clove oil and lemongrass emerge and combine with the still fresh citrus and white flowers of its youth. The palate has great length and depth with concentrated power and fresh, pristine lime juice overlaid with toasted brioche, sage oil and lime marmalade. The wine finishes with soft, refreshing natural acidity. Released in 2020 after 5 years of bottle age, this wine will continue to age gracefully for many years.
Enjoy with duck breast and five spice glaze or tofu pad Thai with fresh lime wedges.
The 2015 vintage is “pale straw-gold. Heady aromas reveal the added layers of age and it is all about complexity. Lime marmelade, baked ricotta topped with lemon zest and toasty too. It also has a line of acidity keeping this bouyant, tingling with freshness.” 95/100pts James Halliday
Personal note:- Pewsey Vale Contours Riesling was the first Australian wine to be bottled under screwcap – back in 1977 – and gave me one of my lifetime wine drinking highlights when I tasted this vintage 20 years later! Amazingly youthful, fresh and complex at 20 years of age!
