Haut Bailly OWC-6 Pessac Leognan – 2015

Chateau Haut Bailly is a Bordeaux gem! They have THE most amazing, state of the art new winery which has been built into the hill outside the old chateau so that you barely know there is a winery there. They have possibly the oldest vines in Bordeaux – 20% of the blend for their grand vin each year comes from a plot of vines directly outside the chateau which are over 100 years old. And the chateau is managed by one of the most impressive personalities in Bordeaux – Veronique Sanders – who has achieved so much during her tenure over the past 30 or so years.

The 2015 has sunny, warm fruit flavours, very smooth tannins, depth, elegance and power. Charming, easy, irresistible. One of my favourite Bordeaux from this vintage. 97/100 PL, tasted at the chateau September 2025

“Composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Haut-Bailly offers up a tantalizingly savory nose of smoked meats, chargrill, tapenade, unsmoked cigars and black truffles with a core of black currants, black cherries and wild blueberries plus wafts of iron ore and bouquet garni. Medium to full-bodied, very firm and yet wonderfully plush with a powerful core of fruit—this vintage is truly an iron fist in a velvet glove. The finish goes on and on with persistent earthy/minerally notes and savory/sweet fruit. Although it is tempting and indeed delicious right now, the wine still possesses many restrained layers and should handsomely reward the patient.” 97+pts/100 The Wine Advocate
