Grosset Polish Hill Riesling Clare Valley, South Australia – 2022

CHF 55.00

Grosset’s Polish Hill Vineyard produces Australia’s finest and most serious expression of Riesling from deep, blue slate soils, estimated to be around 500 million years old!

This wine is rated “exceptional” by Langton’s Classification; one of the top 22 wines in Australia.

There’s an initial shyness on the nose, not surprising given the  history of Grosset Polish Hill; and more restrained than some recent releases. This initial restraint gives way to a slowly evolving, yet increasingly intense, pure lime perfume. The palate is tight yet features amazingly intense lime pith and lime juice flavours while the impressive weight and steely backbone are characteristic of the style. It finishes crisp, clean and mouth-puckering: the length is staggering.

Ageing Potential: 6-15 years, up to 20 years
Source: Grosset Polish Hill Vineyard (ACO certified organic)
Fruit Flavours: Intense citrus and cool slate characters
Profile: Bone dry (zero fermentable sugar), intense and powerful with persistent length
Fining: Nil- suitable for vegans and vegetarians

“The Polish Hill Riesling is muscular and defined in its structure and is routinely possessed of an authority and grace straight off the bat. This 2022 Polish Hill Riesling is mineral and fine, but phenolic and taut, too. The acidity creates tension and life in the mouth, and despite the wine being pristine, it is chalky and pithy, too. The Polish Hill Riesling has a decorated legacy and is prized for its longevity in the cellar. There have been mutterings of similarities between 2022 and the great and fabled 2002 vintage, boding very well indeed for the future of this wine. Riesling mainlines the dirt and takes us to place. This is why we gravitate toward great wine, to be taken to dirt, vineyard and region.” 97pts Wine Advocate
