The Grand Cru of Les Échezeaux lies to the west and southwest of the Clos de Vougeot, at the mouth of the Combe d’Orveau valley, where the slope is steep (6.5%). The plot ranges in altitude from 277 to 281 meters. The lieu-dit faces southeast.
The reddish-brown soil is 40 to 50 cm thick, with light-colored limestone fragments and chert nodules (chailles).
The substratum underlying Les Échezeaux is very probably composed of Premeaux limestone.
“”Almost 100% whole bunch vinification for the Echezeaux. A beautiful vivid ruby purple. The nose is deliciously perfumed, a wine very much at ease with itself. Equally gracious on the palate, delivering a silky red fruit with refined tannins, and excellent persistence. Jeremy notes that they only really began to discover the hoped for silkiness in the Echezeaux after conversion to biodynamic farming – which for this vineyard began in 2001. (Nov 2024)” 96-98pts Jasper Morris MW
