The red wine from Morey-Saint-Denis comes from 6 plots at the foot of the slope, west of the road (RD 974), and east of the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, where the slope is slight (3%). The plots range in altitude from 249 to 264 meters, facing northeast to due south.
The loamy soil is less stony than higher upslope, with patches of Comblanchien limestone fragments in some parts.
The plots for the Morey-Saint-Denis village wine lie on two different types of substratum. Some plots overlie fine deposits, laid down over millions of years, that gradually filled in the fault trough (graben), while other plots overlie alluvial fan deposits at the mouth of the valley (Combe de Morey-Saint-Denis).
“There is enough wood in evidence to mention surrounding the earthy and spicy aromas of poached plum and violet. I very much like the texture and energy of the acceptably dense medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a dusty, powerful and more refined finale that displays excellent length. Lovely and understated.” 92pts Burghound
