Castelfeder – Alto Adige

This premium quality, family producer is based in the village of Cortina in the very south of the Alto Adige wine region. They produce wines from 13 different grape varieties, all typical of the region. But it is their Pinot Biancos which most impress me. Grown on Dolomitic-limestone soils at 600 metres altitude, they are vibrantly fresh and mineral with all the mountain purity you would expect from this beautiful wine region. No wine region in the world makes Pinot Bianco of this quality!

Their “Vom Stein” Pino Pianco is elegant and gently fruity with aromas of apples and Spring flowers. It is pure and fresh, with added depth and character from its 6 months ageing on its lees after fermentation. No oak, just a  great value expression of mountain-gown Pinot Bianco.

Their top of the range “Tecum” Pinot Bianco is only bottled in magnums. It comes from the winery’s highest altitude vineyard and has perfect balance, harmony and elegance. Subtle, pure, mineral and long-lived, it has extra depth of flavour and character from its 12months ageing on its lees in large old oak casks. Best enjoyed between 3-7 years.
