Desvignes Morgon Cote Du Py Cuvée Javernières – 2018

“Desvignes’s 2018 Morgon Côte du Py Javernières is superb, bursting from the glass with a captivating bouquet of violets, raspberries, dark chocolate and smoky blackberries. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a deep and multidimensional core, succulent acids and powdery tannins. Beautifully balanced and structurally refined despite its power and concentration, this is worth a special effort to seek out.” 95/100pts The Wine Advocate

Desvignes Morgon Cote Du Py Cuvée Javernières Les Impenitents – 2018

“As usual, the 2018 Morgon Côte du Py Les Impénitents is one of the wines of the vintage in the Beaujolais, opening in the glass with aromas of black raspberries, mulberries, cracked pepper, orange rind and peonies. On the palate, it’s deep, full-bodied and enveloping, with a concentrated and multidimensional core, powdery tannins and a long, lingering finish. This is somewhat broader and more immediate than the 2017 rendition, and while its aging potential is prodigious, it will be more approachable young. As readers will remember, this bottling is a special cuvée derived from three parcels within Javernières that were planted between 1912 and 1914.” 96/100pts The Wine Advocate

Desvignes Morgon Corcelette – 2018

“A cuvée produced from purchased grapes, the 2018 Morgon Corcelette derives from a parcel that’s situated at the comparatively high elevation of 470 meters and characterized by poor, decomposed granite soils. Revealing notes of blackberries, cassis, raspberries and grilled meat, it’s medium to full-bodied, supple and satiny, with a charming, expansive profile and fine tannins concealed in succulent fruit. This is a head-turning Corcelette that’s already hard to resist.” 92/100pts The Wine Advocate

Desvignes Morgon Cote Du Py – 2018

“Aromas of spicy cassis and blackberries mingle with scents of smoked meats and cracked black pepper to introduce the 2018 Morgon Côte du Py, a medium to full-bodied, layered and broad-shouldered wine with a fleshy core of juicy fruit, excellent depth and dimensions, and a long, nicely defined finish. There’s plenty of fine-grained tannin here, but it’s hidden to such an extent that this will make for more accessible early drinking than the firmer 2017 rendition.

This 13-hectare domaine produces some of the longest-lived and most serious wines in the Beaujolais. Old vines, cultivated soils, a late harvest and classical winemaking with semi-carbonic maceration, long macerations and a submerged cap are the rudiments of the approach. These are inky, saturated reds with plenty of character and structure, and the top cuvées will have no trouble evolving for two decades. Anyone looking to experience the glories of aged Beaujolais shouldn’t hesitate to tuck a couple of cases away in the cellar.” 93/100 pts The Wine Advocate

Desvignes Morgon Corcelette – 2017

“The 2017 Morgon Corcelette derives from the sandier soils that typically characterize this lieu-dit, and it’s a new cuvée for Desvignes, produced from purchased grapes. Exhibiting notes of plums, red cherries and potpourri, the wine is medium to full-bodied, bright and tangy, with a juicy core of fruit and fine tannins that will be utterly silky after a few years’ bottle age.” 92/100 pts The Wine Advocate

Desvignes Morgon Cote Du Py – 2017

This Morgon comes from 65 year old vines grown in the schistous/volcanic-soiled Cote du Puy subzone. It is extremely pure and intense with lovely depth and density of vibrant raspberry and red berry fruits. It is very young and needs a little time to open up but the fruit is delicious!
“Unfurling in the glass with notes of black cherries, mulberries, cracked black pepper and dark chocolate, the 2017 Morgon Côte du Puy is a deep, brooding, medium to full-bodied wine with considerable power and firm but fine-grained extract. Concentrated and structured, it will reward patience.” 93/100pts The Wine Advocate
